Sanctions

Coupled with Language of choice, this programme is designed to give children some control over the choices they make, but with a firm understanding of choices and outcomes, rights and responsibilities. The main route forward with sanctions is the matter of time recovery. Waste time here, we may need to recover some of it elsewhere - is the simple message.

The main difference is in takeup time. If a requirement is for an instant decision, children may make the wrong, emotional, one. This is about sensible, grown-up dialogue with clear guidelines and structure.

It is also not about punishment, it is about learning a new way of responding, rather than reacting. We, as adults. have the tools and every negative behaviour presented is an opportunity to impart our understanding of this system and to teach the student how to manage better the next time.

Punishment is a state of revenge and imparts negative learning processes, whereas this system begins the process of positive learning, choices and outcomes.
